RR9

The RR9 (RR9D in Japanese documentation) has an alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, a single Heartfield active humbucker, 22 frets and a fixed bridge with string-through-body design. The difference with the RR8 is that it has a Fender American standard tremolo an a 648 mm scale length (but the same 12" (305 mm) neck radius).

It used to sell for $769.99 (75,000 Yen).

Heartfield colour codes available for this guitar: Frost Red (577), Brite White (581), Yellow Sparkle (593) and Blue Sparkle (594).

First documented month of manufacture: July 1988 (serial number G88320, not pictured on this site). Last documented month of manufacture: November 1991 (serial number K10211, not pictured on this site). The guitar appeared in Fender Frontline first in spring 1990 (there are no earlier issues) and last in autumn 1993. This appears to make it (and the RR8) the Heartfield guitar longest in production.

Type: 1988 RR9
Serial #: H89131
Remarks: Note that this one has binding, well, of sorts. It seems very much like it was refinished (the colour is real Black, not a factory finish for the RR9) and then had a white edge painted. So definitely after-market.

Type: 1989 RR9
Serial #: I89011
Remarks: This guitar was bought in 2004 after having hung, new, in the shop...for 15 years! The store owner swapped the tremolo with that of a Strat... The colour is Frost Red.

Type: 1989 RR9
Serial #: I89027
Remarks: Yellow Sparkle finish. Do note that the guitar in the first picture on the right is its brother, the very RR9 listed below. Despite their undoubted similar production date they have different branding (this one is Heartfield, the other is Fender). These two instruments have been reunited 17 years after the production.

Type: 1989 RR9
Serial #: I89029
Remarks: Yellow Sparkle finish. The unusual thing about this guitar is that it is Fender-branded - with Heartfield mentioned only on the truss rod cover.
